Project Goal

The overall goal of the project is to reduce poverty and enhance the quality of life of beneficiary fishermen and fish mongers in the fishing community of Shama and surrounding environment.   This will be achieved by improving their productive assets,  access to key support services (like access to banking and credit facilities, income earning skills training, access to premix fuel, servicing and repair service outlet for outboard motors, recreational opportunities.

Specifically the project will

  • Build and strengthen capacities of the fishermen and fishmongers in Bookkeeping, financial management, and income earning skills.
  • Facilitate easy access to premix fuel for the outboard motors of fishermen.
  • Promote the culture of savings and facilitate access to credit through formation of credit unions for the fishermen and fishmongers.
  • Promote the culture of good health and access to recreational activities.

These objectives will be achieved through
the implementation of six main strategies:

  • Institutional strengthening and capacity building;
  • Facilitation of Easy Access to Premix fuel
  • ervicing and Maintenance of Outboard Motors
  • Fish Storage and Processing
  • Promotion of Savings and Banking Culture
  • Recreational Facilities to promote good health
